Why the wait? The reason I'm recommending patience when it comes to your audiobook...
Jun 10, 2025
There's been a lot of interest in the AI Audio for Authors course, so I wanted to explain why we're holding back from launching the course just yet.
We're working hard to make the best and most up-to-date course for you. As I write this, ElevenLabs have just launched their amazing v3 voice model which I'm certain is going to be incredible for high-quality fiction audiobooks. So, we're waiting to be able to teach you how to use that before we launch the course as we don't want to teach you something that's going to be outdated in a month or two, and waste your time.
My advice right now is if you're wanting to invest the time and money to create great audiobooks using AI technology, you need to wait.
I'm an alpha tester for ElevenLabs, as they love user feedback, so I can promise you I'll be able to share the very latest developments and tools, as they become available.
While the current v2 models, which we've used to produce dozens of books in the last year, are absolutely good enough for non-fiction books and we could teach you how to use those, it's quite possible everything's going to be better with this next generation.
v3 is available for everyone to have a play with, although I warn you now, it's wild! In the good way of much more expression than previous models, and in the bad way that some of the output is crazy. We're talking music in the background, explosions added in the middle of a script. Truly wild. But it's in 'alpha', and that means it's at the very earliest stages of being refined and improved.
Most importantly, if you've used ElevenLabs before, most of the voices do not work well with the new model. So don't freak out (like I did!) when your favourites don't sound the same. They promise that will change once they develop the model further and the individual voices can be 'fine tuned' to work.
If you haven't yet, sign up for a free account with ElevenLabs and start having a play with both the current, v2 models, and the new v3, using the free credits they offer.
So, thank you for your patience. Subscribe to the blog if you want to get updates on the state of play and my thoughts on how audio tools for authors are shaping up. I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait.
